Top 10 Twitter Acronyms
Twitter is swiftly developing its own lingo. If you decide to join up, you’ll learn soon enough the difference between a “tweet” and a “mistweet.” In the meantime, the 140-character limit demands economy of words. For better or worse, that can leave you scratching your head if you’re new to the forum. Here’s a glossary to get you started.
- b/c = because, just…because.
- BTW = By The Way. An easy way to add an aside.
- DM = Direct Message. The term for Twitter’s e-mail,. “DM me” means take the discussion private. “Twetiquette” compels users to move long or involved conversations to DMs.
- FTF = Face to Face. A meeting in person.
- IMHO= In My Humble Opinion. The “H” can also stand for honest, IMHO
- IRL = In Real Life. Everything you read via Twitter may not be true IRL.
- JV = Joint Venture. A collaborative effort among Twitterers.
- LMK = Let Me Know. The sender desires a response.
- OH = Overheard. The sender is passing along someone else’s remarks; commonly used at conferences or while traveling.
- RT = Retweet. A tweet that has been forwarded; an update on FWD.
